North West ICT Champion
The IT Zone is proud to have Peter Dunn as the North west of England's ICT Champion!
An ICT Champion is someone who is committed to providing quality IT consultancy and advice to organisations who need it, free of charge.
"Our work is to build the capacity of established networks and support services at local, regional and national levels, to develop resources and to provide signposting so that organisations can use technology more efficiently and effectively. We support members of ChangeUp Consortia, local support and development organisations (such as a CVS’), Volunteer Centres and other specialist support agencies working with third sector staff, volunteers and trustees.
We don’t promote technology for its own sake as we believe it must be tailored to reflect people’s own needs and we can’t provide direct hands-on support to front line groups but will signpost to existing local support providers.
Each champion has regional goals which reflect the priorities in their area, as well as series of aims which connect their work at a national level and with the other Capacitybuilders National Support Services."

Capacitybuilders have commissioned, in each region of England, an ICT Champion whose role it is to develop the range of local voluntary sector ICT support providers and to signpost voluntary sector infrastructure organisations to use these services.
How will the ICT Champion help?
- By being a champion for ICT. Working regionally and sub-regionally developing ICT strategies and in delivering ICT awareness raising initiatives to local infrastructure organisations.
- Through local knowledge, impartially signposting third sector organisations to providers of practical ICT resources and available services.
- By identifying existing ICT service providers and then by sharing best practice helping these become more sustainable.
The aim is to see a better co-ordinated and resourced network of local ICT providers supplying relevant and affordable hands-on ICT support, advice and guidance services.
